Summary of Past Meetings

A town hall meeting for Ward 5 with Councilman Dave Aiazzi was held April 10th, 2008 at the Crowley Student Center at UNR. A news video about the meeting is available at

A Northwest NAB meeting was held on March 20, 2008 at City Hall, at which the Flying J project was discussed. A report on this meeting, and a copy of a petition that is being circulated, are available under Resources/Links. Also, it was announced at the meeting that a Hampton Inn will be built on the northwest corner of I-80 and Robb Dr.

Northwest NAB meetings are normally held the third Thursday of the month at 6 pm at the Fire Station on Mae Anne and Sharlands. Details of upcoming meetings will be posted here as they become available.

Flying J held a required public meeting at McQueen High School on March 4, 2008. They indicated that they intend to proceed with a request for a Master Plan Amendment for a PUD (Planned Unit Development) on their property at the south end of the Robb Drive bridge at I-80 so that it can essentially be rezoned for virtually any type of development. In other words, Flying J plans to use the Special Planning Area and Planned Unit Development process to try to circumvent the the City Council ordinance regarding truck stops. (A report on this meeting by a Sierra Canyon resident, as well as a diagram of the proposed planning area, can be found in the Resources/Links area below.)

The ordinance and truck stop definition was passed unanimously at the Reno City Council Public Hearing on November 28, 2007.  For details, see the RGJ article and Channel 2 report under Resources below. This is just the first step in what will undoubtedly prove to be a long fight!
